Why this site exists

Outdoor Grove started with a simple frustration: most outdoor-living advice online is either too vague to act on or too padded to read. You get twenty photos of a pergola and not one measurement. So we write the version we wanted to find — specific, costed, and honest about what does not work.

What you will find here

• Real dimensions — deck spans, patio widths, pergola heights, path clearances. The numbers that decide whether an idea actually fits your yard, before you buy a single board.
• Real costs — what a project runs in materials, where the money really goes, and which parts are worth paying someone else to do.
• Honest round-ups — including the options we decided against, and why.
• Ideas worth saving — backyards, patios, porches, decks, landscaping, garden design, outdoor structures, and decor and lighting, organised so you can find them again.

How we work

Every guide is researched before it is written and revisited when prices, products or codes change. When we recommend something, we say why. When the right answer depends on your climate, your soil or your local code, we say that instead of pretending there is one answer for everyone. When we are unsure, we say so. We correct mistakes in the open rather than quietly deleting them.

What we are not

We are not a substitute for a licensed contractor, an engineer, or your local building department. Anything structural or load-bearing, and anything involving gas, electricity, drainage or property lines, needs a permit and a professional. We will tell you when a project has crossed that line rather than letting you find out later.
